French electro duo Daft Punk have essentially confirmed rumours which first arose in January that they are to release a new album this year.
Daft Punk's Facebook page was updated with a link to their website and a new cover image (above) with a logo for Columbia Records, confirming rumours that they were to sign to the label.
Chic's Nile Rodgers was quoted as saying that he worked with the band - Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo - on new material and that an album will follow before 2013 is out.
Rodgers wrote a blog post which stated: "The next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Pink would have started to hit people's eardrums..."
That's all the information we have to hand at the moment, seeing as the band's website has been down ever since the announcement.
More on this as we get it..
