Craig David has one of the best R'n'B soul voices of his generation. So why doesn't he do more with it? His third album is his blandest yet, and suggests that the Sothampton boy wonder's self-satisfaction has caused him to become creatively lazy. Abandoning the garage sound that gave his debut a welcome dose of edginess, The Story Goes... is weighed down by wimpish songs about heartbreak, his mum and why bullying at school is really, really bad. It's all very worthy, and the man still sings like an angel with a moustache. But the really annoying thing is that most of the time he sounds utterly bored by what he's singing about - and if he doesn't care, why should we? This isn't exactly a terrible album, but for someone of David's talent it should have been a lot better.
