While yesterday saw Americans celebrate Independence Day, aka 4th of July, for Chance the Rapper, something very special also happened on the day. The 25 year old rapper proposed to his longtime girlfriend Kirsten Corley, and she said yes!

Chance – born Chancelor Jonathan Bennett – popped the question during a barbeque he was having with friends and family to celebrate the national holiday.

His brother, Taylor Bennett, shared a photo of the newly engaged couple on Instagram. A video has also been circulating online of the moment when Chance got down on one knee and asked “Kirsten Katrina Corley, will you make me a man and be my wife?”

Chance the Rapper and Kristen Corley have a 2½-year-old daughter named Kensli Bennett, who they welcomed in September 2015. The little girl can be seen next to her parents during the proposal.

The couple started dating in 2013, but separated in May 2016 when Corley filed court documents to declare the rapper Kensli’s father. She asked the court to remain “sole caretaker” of their daughter and also requested child support. Corley withdrew her filing in January 2017 when she and the rapper reconciled and started living together again.

Last month, Chance surprised a bunch of Chicago students by bringing out Childish Gambino to perform ‘This is America’ for his Open Mike series at the Harold Washington Library Center.

Back in March, he called out a 'terribly racist' beer ad on Twitter.
