Call yourself a Bruce Springsteen fan? Well, you'll know that his famous Chevy convertible is like a holy relic in Springsteen lore, given that it was both the inspiration for and the place where he wrote some of his most famous songs.
'Born to Run', 'Thunder Road' and 'Backstreets' were all written in - or inspired by - The Boss's 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible, with him writing of it in his autobiography: '“In '70s New Jersey, the car was still a powerful image. That summer I bought my first set of wheels for $2,000. It was a ‘57 Chevy with dual, four-barrel carbs, a Hurst on the floor and orange flames spread across the hood."
The lyrics for 'Racing in the Street' also mention the car: "I got a sixty-nine Chevy with a 396 / Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor”.
Now, the vehicle (along with Springsteen's original registration) is up for auction - which means you could make the Springsteen fan in your life verrrrrrrry happy this Christmas.
It's been on display at the RockNRoll Hall of Fame for the last few years, but is still in working order.
The auction is going through eBay and at time of writing, there were 23 bids on it, the highest being US $76,322.00. That's completely do-able, right?
