John Carney, writer and director of the Oscar winning 'Once', has joined forces with Bono and The Edge to produce the semi-biographical movie 'Sing Street'.
The film is understood to be inspired by Carney's love of music and it was announced in Berlin and tells the tale of a teenager called Cosmo growing up in 1980's Dublin who uses music as an inspiration to break free from the mundanity of everyday life, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Bono and The Edge have long been acquaintances of Carney and are understood to be involved in the music, as well as the film itself.
Carney, a former member of The Frames, achieved universal acclaim for his 2006 movie 'Once' which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Hansard and has since gone on to be a Tony Award winning Broadway production.
'Sing Street' is currently seeking distributors on the European Film Market.
