Another awards show, another set of awards for Arctic Monkeys. The Sheffield group picked up awards for Best British Band, Best Live Band and Best Album at last night's NME Awards at the O2 Academy in London.
Others who'll have to clear a little bit of extra space on their mantelpiece this morning include Paul McCartney, Damon Albarn, Belle & Sebastien, Lily Allen and Haim and there was live performances on the night from The Horrors, Drenge and Metronomy.
Jarvis Cocker presented the evening's first award to Arctic Monkeys for Best Live Band and Alex Turner, fresh from a much talked about speech at the recent BRIT Award, referenced his now infamous speech.
"As the sun sets on awards season for another year there's just the big two left", he said. "I'm talking about the Oscars and the NME Awards. That said I'd like to thank The Academy."
Turner then explained the brevity of his speech, saying: "I used all my best shit last week."
Arctic Monkeys also pipped Foals, Palma Violets, Biffy Clyro, Disclosure and Two Door Cinema Club to Best British Band.
Lily Allen won the Best Solo Artist award. Allen remarked upon accepting at the award that "this is kind of dumb because David Bowie was in the same category and Jake Bugg so this to you guys, not me."
Damon Albarn won the NME Award for Innovation and Paul McCartney won the Songwriters' Songwriter Award.
Macca used his time at the podium to reflect on his career as a songwriter, saying: "The NME brings up so many memories. It's been going longer than me. I saw my first ever picture of Elvis in NME."
He continued: "The great thing about songwriting is we don't know how you do it so you can't talk about it. Thank you."
Well played, Macca.
