The Dalkey Book Festival takes place in south Dublin next week, and although it may be a literature-based festival there are a number of events in the programme that will interest music fans, too.
One of them is a public interview with author Gareth Murphy, dubbed 'Cowboys and Indies: The Business of Music'. Murphy will be discussing the ins and outs of the music industry from the 1850s onwards - a journey that he chronicled in his recently-published book 'Cowboys and Indies: The Epic History of the Record Industry'.
He'll be in conversation with Hot Press's Roisin Dwyer at Dalkey Town Hall next Saturday at 2pm, where he'll expand on his discoveries and the fascinating stories he unearthed while writing the book. Tickets are €10 and on sale from dalkeybookfest.org.
Also taking place next Saturday is a talk with Amanda Palmer, frontwoman of Dresden Dolls, solo artist, performer, TED talker, author and Kickstarter revolutionary. Palmer published her memoir 'The Art of Asking' last year and will be discussing it at the Seafront Marquee on Saturday at 4pm. Tickets are €20 from the same site.
