Adam Clayton is giving evidence today at Dublin's Central Criminal Court against his former personal assistant who is alleged to have stolen €2.8 million from his bank accounts.
Clayton's former PA, Carol Hawkins, who worked for the U2 bassist for 16 years from 1992, is accused of stealing checks from Clayton for a period of four years. Hawkins was a signatory on two of Clayton's bank accounts.
It is alleged that Hawkins lodged 181 of Clayton's cheques into her personal account in order to fund a more upmarket lifestyle.
Clayton joked when he took the stand that he not used to being behind a microphone, saying "I'm more of a 'dum, dum, dum', but I will practise my technique".
