Harry Styles claimed the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd as an influence before his own solo debut album came out - but his former One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson is going for a more contemporary angle with his own material.
Although the songs that Tomlinson have released to date have been quite EDM and electronic-influenced, he has said that the likes of Oasis and Arctic Monkeys proved an influence during the writing process.
"I grew up loving bands, so I like really organic instruments -- I like a lot of guitar" he told MTV News "Because I'm from the north of England, naturally everyone's kind of obsessed with Oasis, you know, and also, you know, Arctic Monkeys."
He added: "The way that they write, I've always found very interesting. Because, you know, if you look at a pop song fundamentally, lyrically it's very different [from] the conversational style the Arctic Monkeys or Oasis might use. And that's exciting to me."
There's no word yet on when Tomlinson's solo album might be released.
