Rising Irish rock band The Psychs have switched on the summer with brand new music in the form of their new single.

‘So Real, Surreal’ ushers in a new vibration to the eerie, foot-stomping rock that The Psychs are known for; a solid rock beat adorned with goth elements on a heavy grooving bassline.

To mark the occasion of its release, we caught up with Psychs lead singer Billy Kid Jones.

1. What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
Growing up, my house was filled with Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen, I’ll hear them today and know every lyric without even knowing how I know it - like memories of a past life.

2. In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Finish drink quick.

3. How do you wind down after a gig?
Chinese food and ‘Below Deck’ with my girlfriend.

4. What’s the one song (by another artist) you wish you’d written or recorded first?‘
Sympathy for the Devil’ by the Rolling Stones. It’s not fair those guys were born first - I would have caught that one, I swear.

5. What is your pet peeve?
Ben.

6. Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
Listen to Korn - ‘Issues’
Read ‘The Road’ - Cormac McCarthy
See ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ by Coppola

7. Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
Director: Jim Jarmusch
Billy: Any handsome man will do
Ben: Danny DeVito
Aaron: Micheal Cera
Clampo: Zendaya

8. You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
If people care, they care too much - just listen to our new song.

9. Describe your perfect day off.
Any day off.

10. Tell us, in one sentence, why we should come to your next gig (whenever it may be.)
Because there will come a time when you and all your mates are talking about us at your local water cooler and you can stand there with a smug mug and say “I saw them before it was cool.”
