Even though it was surprised-announced with no marketing or preamble to it, Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' has become a massive hit and broke several records - all in the space of just 24 hours.
The album sold 1.3 million copies, according to Swift's label Republic Records, and also broke a number of streaming records as well.
'Folklore' set a new record on Spotify for first-day album streams by a female artist with 80.6 million streams, not to mention becoming the most-streamed pop album on Apple Music in 24 hours.
While first-week figures are still being pulled together, industry analysts are already beginning to suspect that the album will become the biggest album of 2020, a title currently held by The Weeknd's 'After Hours' and previously held by Juice WRLD's 'Legends Never Die'.
The album has been warmly received by both music critics and fans, with a number of outlets giving the album full marks and five stars, praising the album's production and Swift's confident return to country music after so many years away.
