The 53rd Super Bowl is due to take place on February 3rd, 2019, with Maroon 5 set to be the half-time performance.

The Super Bowl half-time performance has previously been seen as one of the highest honours an artists could be offered. Performances in the past have included Lady Gaga, Madonna, Beyonce, and Justin Timberlake earlier this year.

Timberlake's performance felt underwhelming compared to previous years however; possibly due to making us endure over two minutes of 'Can't Stop The Feeling.' But, it did spawn this glorious meme.

Maroon 5 have been lined-up to play next year's Super Bowl, but the band can't seem to nab any guest performances. Although Adam Levine and co haven't officially signed up, their involvement in the show has been proving difficult thus far.

It's believed that Rihanna, and Pink, were both in separate negotiations for the half-time performance next year, but neither made the jump. It's believed that Rihanna chose not to accept, in honour of Colin Kaepernick, who knelt during the American National Anthem in 2016.

Kaepernick did not stand while the National Anthem was playing, as a protest against racial injustice in the US, particularly within the Police. Since then, many celebrities have been sharing their stance with the American Football Quarterback.

In October, comedian Amy Schumer created an Instagram post which said, "I think it would be cool is Maroon5 backed out of Super Bowl like Rihanna did. I personally told my reps I wouldn't do a Super Bowl commercial this year. I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice but it's all I got."

She went on to speak about Kaepernick, saying "And the hottest thing a guy can so is get down on one knee. Not to propose but to reject the treatment of his teammates by this country."

Friday thought. I wonder why more white players aren’t kneeling. Once you witness the truly deep inequality and endless racism people of color face in our country, not to mention the police brutality and murders. Why not kneel next to your brothers? Otherwise how are you not complicit? I think it would be cool if @maroon5 backed out of super bowl like @badgalriri Did. I personally told my reps I wouldn’t do a Super Bowl commercial this year. I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice but it’s all i got. Hitting the nfl with the advertisers is the only way to really hurt them. I know opposing the nfl is like opposing the nra. Very tough, but don’t you want to be proud of how you’re living? Stand up for your brothers and sisters of color. And the hottest thing a guy can do is get down on one knee. Not to propose but to reject the treatment of his teammates by this country. Anyone who says its disrespectful to our military please read up on the fact that a lot of veterans are proud of what @kaepernick7 is doing and fully support him. What are your thoughts?

Maroon 5 seem to have asked a few artists, who have as of yet failed to say they would be making an appearance on the night. Rapper Cardi B has "been going back and forth" about her decision; while Outkast’s Andre 3000 and Nicki Minaj are also believed to have been approached.

With time ticking on this one, it'll be interesting to see who actually performs on the night - that is, if Maroon 5 are still the headliners.
