The Britney Spears conservatorship is still a matter of concern to those who know the pop star.
Cher has given her two cents on the Britney Spears matter regarding her father's monopoly over her finances.
Jamie Spears currently holds onto the Spears' estate, but he previously also held control of the pop star's financial and personal affairs. Despite Spears wanting her father to be removed from all of her assets, he still plays a major part in his daughter's fortune.
In 2020, the 39-year-old lost a bid to remove his control over her estate. Spears said she was "afraid" of her father during the court case.
The HBO documentary 'Framing Britney Spears' from earlier this year catapulted the ongoing legal battle onto our TV screens. Yet, even though Cher has not yet seen the documentary, she still believes Britney Spears' father needs to release his hold over her daughter.
She said to news agency PA: "I think her father should move over and let her have her life. I believe she’s been paying long enough.
"It’s not like everybody on the strip in Las Vegas hasn’t been talking about this for a long time."
This isn't the first time that the 74-year-old has come to Britney's aid. Last year, Cher, who remains very outspoken on Twitter, asked if anyone really wants the pop star "well" or if they only want to make money off her.
Other Hollywood stars such as Miley Cyrus and Paris Hilton have shown their support towards the #FreeBritney movement.
The legal battle regarding the conservatorship is still ongoing. The latest developments in the case saw Britney Spears' attorney file a petition to have her manager Jodi Montgomery replace her father permanently. The next court hearing is scheduled for April 27.
