"Parque Via" centers on the isolated life of a longtime caretaker who is faced with drastic change when the luxurious house he has cared for is put up for sale. Beto is the custodian of a house in Mexico City in which he used to work as a domestic helper. Rare visits from the family are now peppered by the irritating prospect of potential buyers. The plush security of his job over the last 10 years has reduced him to a life of near seclusion. He has developed a pathological fear for the exterior, to the point of limiting his contacts to only two people: the owner of the house, for whom he has a feeling of deep gratitude and respect that is translated into obedience; and Lupe, a middle-aged prostitute who serves as a stand-in for companionship. News that the house is to go on sale causes a dilemma for Beto, who doesn't know whether to dare to set forth and live or to seek a way of retaining his confinement. A shocking act of violence points to how delicately balanced the veneer of civility can be between the upper and lower classes, and how easily it can evaporate.
