One of a plethora of regional films dealing with backwoods buffoonery, The Whole Shootin' Match stars Lou Perry and Sonny Davis as a pair of rustic perennial losers. Unable to make a go at any other line of work, Perry and Davis decide to tap the rich hippie market (they weren't called yuppies yet). Thus, the two stupes go into the polyurethane business. Though it looks like it was shot on a budget of rice and old shoes, The Whole Shootin' Match has an indefinable charm which sets it apart from the usual run of white-trash quickies. Director, coproducer and cowriter Eagle Pennell has fashioned a genuine sleeper; now it's up to you to track down a print and enjoy it for yourself.~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
