In 1917, the British army reaches a stalemate with the Germans during the Battle of Messines in Belgium. Colonel 'Hellfire Jack' Norton-Griffiths recruits a group of miners to tunnel from the Allied trenches, beneath no man's land and set off bombs from below the German line.
