Südtirols hoher Norden
DocumentaryJochen Hemmleb tells in his documentary film with the working title "Südtirols hoher Norden - Wildes, ursprüngliches Land an der Spitze Italiens" about the mountaineering, scenic and historical-cultural diversity of the Tauferer-Ahrntal region. The portrait is of Simon Gietl, a top climber from the Ahrntal region who, together with his brother Manuel, tries his hand at a first ascent of the Durrerspitz in the Hochgall massif. On a four-day hike from the Antholz Valley through the Rieserferner Group to the Austrian Defereggental, the area expert and Hüttenwirt Gottfried Leitgeb reviews the history of the area, telling in particular about the discovery of Iron Age clothes near the Rieserferner Hut and the 600-year-old use of the Jagdhausalm by South Tyrolean farmers. Finally, the alpinists Christoph Hainz, Kurt Astner and Konrad Auer show the athletics and aesthetics of extreme ice climbing, embedded in pictures of a magical winter landscape.
