Strange Fruit

Based on the Lillian Smith novel. Set in a small town in Georgia, 1948, the film tells the story of a young black house painter. His only concern is to be left alone, provide for his family and survive. A voter registration drive is mounted, and he is caught up in events which lead him to make vital choices. Against the wishes of his family, he decides to fight the system and register to vote, a decision having dire consequences.
