SENZENI NA? tells the story of a middle-aged black South African named Enos, who works as a gardener for a white family in Johannesburg. Enos is a simple man who believes that the key to survival under the apartheid system is to do his job proudly and question nothing. His meager salary is the sole financial suppport for his own family, who live far away in the government-created "Homelands." Enos makes the fateful decision to leave his job and return to his wife and children. On his way home, he is apprehended and beaten by the security police who have mistaken him for a political activist. By sheer force of will, he survives his incarceration and as a result of his ordeal becomes politically active for the first time in his life.
