In every war, women and girls are raped, injured and mutilated. Mass rape is a particularly cruel weapon of war and, for many, a terrifying everyday occurrence – one which has harrowing consequences for the victims. Unable to talk about their traumatic experiences, they are ostracized and humiliated – by their family, by the authorities – during their flight and in exile. Even after the war, the victim’s trauma is far from over. The wounds and scars don’t heal, they remain for an entire lifetime.
