Life and Death in Flanders
1965Life And Death In The Country consists of two medium-length films, which together form a single story. Both films are based on works of famous Flemish writers. In The Farmer's Death, Nand, a Flemish farmer is dying. He looks back on his life, which mainly consisted of working and sleeping. In The Water tells us the story of Jan Boele. He is told by his priest to marry Tale Siepers, who gave birth to his child, but Jan doesn't love her. He's in love with another girl, the daughter of a rich farmer. During their wedding celebration, he leaves, closely followed by Tale. They both walk along the river and when Jan walks into the river, Tale follows him. They both drown...Based on the work of Karel Van de Woestijne and Stijn Streuvels.
