Fatherhood

2025 Drama | Other

Matthew Logelin's book Two Kisses For Maddy: A Memoir Of Loss And Love clearly touched a chord with Channing Tatum. The Magic Mike star was originally lined up to star in a film version until Kevin Hart eventually stepped in to take the lead role with American Pie director Paul Weitz at the helm. After more than a year of delays due to the pandemic, Fatherhood arrives on Netflix this week. The comedy drama centres on Matthew Logelin (Hart), a recently widowed father, who is struggling to raise his daughter after the unexpected death of his wife. The supporting cast includes Melody Hurd, Alfre Woodard and Paul Reiser. Acclaimed British composer Rupert Gregson-Williams, who worked on The Crown, Wonder Woman and Aquaman, tugs heartstrings with his score.

Star Rating:

'Fatherhood' is led by an impressive dramatic turn from Kevin Hart

In ‘Fatherhood’, Kevin Hart plays Matt, a single dad who is raising his baby girl following the sudden death of his wife immediately after the birth of their child. Matt must navigate the balance between work and family, while also absorbing advice from those around him (such as not worrying about being perfect, and recognising that some things are just out of his control), and pushing back against single dad stereotypes and prejudices.
