Back to Ararat
1988 DocumentaryThis documentary interviews some of the survivors of the 1915 genocide of 1.5 million Armenians. Most of the interviewees now live among the large Armenian communities that have settled in California. Each survivor tells of the horrors of this time, and how he or she survived it. With this information, viewers may better understand the frenzied efforts of modern-day Armenian nationalists to win attention to their cause (sometimes involving acts of terrorism) become easier to understand. The Armenians, like the Kurds or the Bedouin, are yet another large ethnic group living in contiguous territory which is governed by a large number of different nations and whose nationalistic urges are uniformly met with ferocious repression by those nations.~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
