Achterland

1994

Achterland, filmed by Flemish choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, is another manifestation of her interest in the differences between men and women. She focuses on the diversity and multiplicity regarding the concept of femininity. In Achterland, she uses for the first time musicians who not only perform live but also take part in the theatrical game. In her choreography, recurring characteristics of her work can be recognised: reference to earlier works, movement processed to the limit of endurance, repetition, fast running in a circle, the intense encounters of men and women in the second part.
