Loosely based on the latter stages of Veronica Guerin's life, When the Sky Falls boasts a strong performance from Joan Allen and a gritty script that documents a sleazy Dublin crime world. Unfortunately, the 'based on' element means diversions into cheesy schmaltz; ironically, the film would have been better served by sticking to the fiction.
