Set at the start of WWII, Up At The Villa finds Scott Thomas causing a furore as she attempts to marry into money [Fox] only to queer the pitch by falling for young blade, Sean Penn. A sub-plot includes fascist intrigue but a potentially strong story [adapted from Somerset Maugham's novella] is undermined by a lack of passion and chemistry.
