Professional driver Frank Martin (Statham) has traded his perilous career as a getaway wheelman to chauffer young Jack Billings (Hunter Clary) to school and back. Jack is the son of a government narcotics policy agent and becomes the target for abduction by a Columbian drug cartel, led by the dangerous Gianni (Gassman). Frank initially comes under suspicion for snatching Jack but, because of his growing affinity with the boy, he takes it upon himself to rescue the youngster. However, when he finds that the kidnapping is just a front so Gianni can unleash a deadly virus that will wipe out the narcotics commission, Frank realises there is more at stake than just a boy's life. The follow up to the successful Transporter sees Statham doing a credible job as a British action hero with high kicks, death-defying stunts and yet more high kicks. Promising to up the action quotient to unfeasible heights, director Leterrier delivers on his pledge, as the only high points of Transporter 2 are the action sequences - totally impossible and unreal, these are great fun. The Wachowski brothers, Jackie Chan and John Woo all jostle for position on Leterrier's sleeve as the director wears his influences with no shame. In moving the story along at such a cracking pace, Leterrier hopes no questions will arise regarding plot realism and trusts any query of expediency will be thrown out the window with the bad guys. Unfortunately, questions do surface, the most recurring ones being 'Why, why and why?'
