In one of the strangest pieces of casting in history, De Niro plays Fearless Leader - the arch villain desperate to take over the world with his lackeys Boris (Alexander) and Natasha (Russo). Of course, the only ones who can stop them are those cartoon characters Rocky, Bulwinkle and a young FBI agent. This adaptation of the 1960s animated series may sound like fun, but even with the all-star cast, Rocky and Bulwinkle never captures the imagination. Teetering uncomfortably between slapstick and knowing humour, McAnuff seems unsure of whom or what his targets and audience are.
