From Carlos Saura, the director of last year's excellent Tango, comes the undeniably stylish but oddly emotionless biopic of exiled Spanish painter, Francisco Goya. Tracing the life and loves of the acclaimed modernist, Goya in Bordeaux attempts to tell the artist's story as much through the use of colour and camera work as through conventional methods. It's a brave step, but one that is doomed to failure - thanks primarily to the director's insistence on completely abandoning the narrative in favour of stylistics and stilted dialogue. Still, some cracking imagery.
