Robert Altman's latest offering is a Gothic mystery-come-comedy but can't make up its mind which element should dominate. Glenn Close is in scenery-chewing form as a pretentious woman who disguises her aunt's suicide and unwittingly paints a local man as a murderer. Interesting but flawed and the laughs are thin on the ground.
