A forty-something film director, Salvatore (Perrin), returns home for the funeral of his old friend Alfredo (Noiret) and reminisces about his boyhood in a remote Sicilian village. Superb performances, an excellent script, and a tear-jerking final montage of censored clips, left by Alfredo for the grown-up Salvatore, contribute to one of contemporary cinema's more enduring films.
