Bearing a frightening resemblance to Fame, Centre Stage follows the fortunes of dance wannabes at New York's American Ballet School. The story is chock-a-block with the clichés that dog the genre but the young cast is enthusiastic and experienced director Hytner (The Crucible) sustains a hi-energy pace throughout.
