Scooby-Doo will always hold a special place in our hearts, primarily because we've fond memories of skiving off school when we were sick and watching repeats of it all day.
Let's just forget Scrappy-Doo, because that little s**t was annoying as all hell. The live-action version, with Freddie Prinze Jr and Sarah Michelle Gellar, did well at the box-office and was a decent enough hit to warrant a sequel.
However, since then, it's been more or less relegated to direct-to-video titles with diminishing returns. That, however, is all about to change as Warners just announced that an animated version of the old character is in the works.
Directed by Tony Cervone, who directed Space Jam (!), whilst screenwriting duties are being handled by (gulp) the guy who did a Dr. Doolittle sequel script.
Warners are no doubt looking to older properties such as Scooby-Doo with a view to reigniting interest them, especially since their Warners Animation banner did so well with Lego Movie.
It's a long way away from casting and so forth, but they're throwing a lot of weight behind it.
The question is, would kids today care about Scooby-Doo? Would they get how Velma was actually the brains of the operation or how Daphne and Freddie were basically using the whole 'splitting up to investigate' thing to shift the faces off one another?
Probably not.
