Robert Zemeckis is to remake the psychedelic cartoon, Yellow Submarine, using the pioneering performance capture technique that he last messed around with in Beowulf. According to Variety, the project has been knocking around for some time, with the rights for songs from the fab four notoriously difficult to lock down. But, evidently, Zemeckis has bagged the rights to classic Beatles tracks like All You Need Is Love, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Baby, You're A Rich Man and All Together Now - tunes which are obviously a pivotal part of the film. The original voices weren't provided by Paul, John, Ringo or George, but actually actors doing scouse accents; so that's one issue knocked on the head. Zemeckis next has A Christmas Carol coming out, with Jim Carrey in the lead role. After the slight success of Beowulf on a hefty budget, 'Carol' would need to do really well to justify continued use of the expensive form of filmmaking. Zemeckis is a huge Beatles fan, so if this is going to be remade, having the director of Back To The Future do it isn't exactly the worst case scenario.
