From the get-go, it's worth pointing out how unlikely it was not even a year ago that Zack Snyder would go back and finish 'Justice League', much less that we'd be a few weeks out from seeing it.
For one, the slate of DC movies appeared to be going in a vastly different direction to the one set about Snyder, and what's more, the box office receipts appeared to be showing far better fortunes than they previously had. Still, here we are, with 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' now a reality.
The only question that remains now is whether or not he'll continue on with the DC universe. Not so, it would seem. In a recent interview, Snyder made it clear that he's moving on.
"Look, I never thought I’d be here doing this. I didn’t think I’d be finishing 'Justice League'….The truth is, and it’s been widely reported, and I have no issue, this is an old movie. This is a years-old movie I’m working on. The DC universe has gone and branched off and done its own thing and that’s fine," said Snyder.
"As far as what I did and as far as what my vision for what I wanted to do with these characters and the journey I wanted them to go on, it’s well known that I planned on more movies — five movies or something — but I’m busy. I’ve got a lot going on. Is it cool that the fans have so much faith in the trajectory? Yes, it’s amazing, and I couldn’t be happier and I’m excited for them to see 'Justice League' so they can really drink the entire elixir of 'Justice League'. But would I continue? I have no plan to. But like I said, I didn’t think I’d be here, so who knows?"
Aside from describing his movie as an "entire elixir", a lot of what Snyder is saying makes sense. For one, it's clear that the kind of cinematic universes he's describing just doesn't exist any more - not with streaming and the way things are with cinemas at the moment. Not only that, you only need to look at 'Wonder Woman 1984' to know that the DC universe is moving in a markedly different direction from his, not to mention 'The Batman' with Robert Pattinson.
No release date has been set for 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' as of yet.
