The all kinds of brilliant, but downright bleak, Winter's Bone, cleaned up at 20th Anniversary Gotham Independent Film Awards last night.

One of my favourite flicks of the year; it took home the much coveted Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance awards. The film was heavily buzzed after Sundance, and its star Jennifer Lawrence thought a certainty for an Oscar nomination. But it doesn't have the mammoth backing of a studio to fund an actual campaign, and we've heard a lot more about other actresses since. That said, Lawrence absolutely blew me away; one of my favourite performances in recent memory from anyone. I really can't recommend her, or the film, highly enough.

Anyhow, it's good to see it deservedly pick up some gongs. The Best Picture Oscar is still ten films. So along with sure things (The Town, Inception, The Social Network), it still has a very strong chance of featuring.
