Star of The Office, John Krasinski, is apparently the frontrunner to play iconic superhero Captain America, according to Drew McWeeny at Hitfix.com.
Krasinski's name is reportedly on a shortlist assembled by director Joe Johnston and Marvel, which also includes some new names: Mike Vogel from Cloverfield (who apparently just missed out on Kirk in Star Trek), Scott Porter (great in Friday Night Lights the series, and also popped in Speed Racer) and Patrick Flueger (of Brothers and 4400 fame). The only guy on that list who would be considered a name, and his casting makes sense is Krasinski - providing he hit the gym hard.
Johnston has previously worked with Krasinski's fiancé, Emily Blunt on The Wolfman, so may already be familiar with the director. Marvel are keen to get things moving quickly, so those actors and a handful more will screentest in the next few weeks.
