Considering that not every comedy sequel works out so well, it's not surprising that plans for a Step Brothers sequel were squashed at the germ stages by director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.
You don't even have to look very far to know that comedy sequels, by and large, never seem to work. Hell, Anchorman 2 was a bit of a letdown in comparison with the first one and Zoolander 2 was equally disappointing. In an interview with the New York Daily News, Ferrell talked about early ideas that were bandied about for Step Brothers 2, and they're interesting to hear if nothing else.
"We had a whole story where John and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well," said Ferrell. "The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with Anchorman, and we made what I thought was a really great sequel, really funny."
Ehhhhyeahhh... OK. Less said about that one, the better.
