With award season just around the corner, the movies releasing every Friday are getting more and more interesting with each passing week. This weekend, you'll have some difficulty choosing what to see between the much anticipated Anna Karenina (penned by Tom Stoppard - one of Britain's best writers - from the original novel by Leo Tolstoy) and the Tom Hardy starrer Lawless; both of which we'd recommend watching. We especially expect to see Lawless in the running for an Oscar come January, if not for the film itself, at least a Best Supporting Actor nod for Tom Hardy who can do no wrong in our eyes these days. One release we wholeheartedly encourage you to catch is LCD Soundsystem's documentary - Shut Up And Play The Hits which our John Balfe awards the full five stars to. Also out this weekend is Dredd 3D, our review for which will go live later today. Dredd is set in a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner. In this future, a policeman pairs up with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO. Certainly an enticing premise. Lastly, if you're eager to see whether Adam Sandler has improved on his last offering, Jack & Jill, you could always check out That's My Boy, also starring Andy Samberg.

Alternatively, for a trip down memory lane, you can marvel at the acting talents of Helen Slater and gasp at the state-of-the-art (not) special effects in Supergirl at Trashfest, in Dublin's Sugar Club on September 13th.
