Having suffered leaks every which way with Avengers: Age of Ultron, the good people at Marvel were taking no chances when it came to their first look at Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and after giving us a miniature teaser for the teaser, and then a teaser for the teaser and then a poster, we've finally gotten to see what Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evageline Lily and co. have in store for us this July.
Narrated with an 'inspiring' speech from Douglas, we get a glimpse of most of the players in Ant-Man as well as a montage of your cliched origin story moments (man seeking redemption, a child whose approval he needs etc.) and plenty of action plus your now typical gratuitous Marvel male body shot. Oh and Evangeline Lily in a terrible wig.
Thankfully that's offset by Rudd, who speaks little, but when he does it works. This looks, at least we hope it looks, like it's going to toe the line between Guardians of the Galaxy humour (thanks to the presence of Rudd) and your regular Marvel escapade, but the only concern we have is that there's no room in Marvel's grand plan for a sequel until 2019 at the earliest. Could this signify that Marvel are expecting their first cinematic flop?
Hopefully not, because there's nothing we love more than Paul Rudd on our cinema screens, be he ant-sized or regular.
