Richard Kelly's best film, the best film Patrick Swayze starred in that wasn't Dirty Dancing, the launchpad for Jake Gyllenhaal - Donnie Darko is a lot of things to a lot of people.
Released back in 2001, the film quickly developed a cult following and marked Richard Kelly out as a promising talent. It was another five years before he'd make the experimental and ultimately failed Southland Tales, with Dwayne Johnson and Justin Timberlake. His last film is 2009's highly underrated The Box. Why he hasn't been let out of movie prison since is a mystery, to be honest.
Anyway, the BFI is releasing a 4K Restoration of Donnie Darko in cinemas from December 17th and we're guessing a Blu-Ray / DVD isn't far behind either.
Take a look.
