"You've spent all your time trying to be your dad and now you're wondering what it means to be you."
So says Bones McCoy (Karl Urban) to his friend and Captain, James Kirk (Chris Pine) and the trailer goes on to hint at just what that means as Kirk seemingly abandons the Enterprise as it's about to go down at the beginning of the trailer. The exact opposite of what his father did when he died saving the life of his crew (and a new born Kirk).
How will that pan out for him? Let's take a closer look.
Even though he appears to be leaving his crew behind at the beginning of the trailer, it's very much certain that Kirk will be making an effort to save them before the film's end.
Save them from what exactly? Despite the absence of the plot's finer details we do know that Idris Elba is playing the villain, Krall. The leader of an entity that neither Kirk nor Starfleet has ever encountered before.
The action packed trailer, which is set to Rihanna's new song from the movie's soundtrack, Sledgehammer, promises the return of the rest of Kirk's crew including Zoe Saldana's Uhura, Zachary Quinto's Spock and Simon Pegg's Scotty.
