It started off with a picture that sent the internet wild with rumour.
In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Pierce Brosnan was asked about a picture in which he appeared with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the respective stars of Deadpool and Logan.

Kimmel pointed out the latter pic in particular and asked him if the rumours were true and is he going to play Cable.
‘Not true,’ answered the former Bond. ‘Nothing has come my way yet… It was completely made up. We were sitting, waiting for a plane, the three of us, and the guy said “quick, let’s get a photograph”… Mr Reynolds said let’s do three wise monkeys, put it out there and it went viral.’
Brosnan insisted he wasn’t lying and that he’d tell Jimmy if he’d heard anything.
We think he could make a great Cable so we’re not letting go of the dream just yet:
