Don't call it comeback because he's been here for years, but Mel Gibson is well, enjoying a career resurgence.
After an incredibly strong showing at the Venice International Film Festival for Hacksaw Ridge, his first directorial effort since 2006's Apocalypto, Gibson is following closely with Blood Father. The story follows Gibson and Erin Moriarty on the run from a gang of drug dealers with whom she was previously involved. The only thing is that Gibson's character is an ex-convict for violent crimes, so it's gonna get messy.
Judging by the trailer, it does look as though Gibson is embracing once again his action credentials and his advancing years, much like how Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington are doing. The director, Jean-Francois Richet, directed the excellent Mesrine films and the decidedly-average Assault On Precinct 13 remake, so it's anyone's guess how this is going to turn out.
Blood Father hits Irish cinemas on October 7th.
