The talk show host welcomed guests, including Nicole Kidman, Robert de Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Susan Sarandon, Clint Eastwood, Eddie Murphy and Tom Hanks, in the monologue.

There was also a bunch of standard US election jokes, which we’re all relieved to know will finally end this week.

There was a bit of poking fun at the ceremony itself, as Corden referred to the HFA as ‘the centrepiece of awards season', plus Corden jokes about 2016's superhero movies, as well as suggesting more films take literal titles like Girl on a Train.

 

 

 

 

Winners of the night included Kenneth Lonergan, recipient of the Hollywood Screenwriter Award for Manchester By the Sea. Justin Timberlake won the Hollywood Song Award for Can't Stop the Feeling! from the animated film Trolls, Eddie Murphy won the Hollywood Career Achievement Award, and Mel Gibson won the Hollywood Director Award.

Other notable wins included Tom Hanks winning the Hollywood Actor Award for Sully, the Hollywood Documentary Award went to Fisher Stevens and Leonardo DiCaprio for Before the Flood, The Jungle Book won the Hollywood Blockbuster Award, accepted by Jon Favreau, and the Hollywood Breakthrough Director Award went to Tom Ford for Nocturnal Animals.
