It's a long time coming - too long, in fact - but Leonardo DiCaprio finally snagged an Oscar for Best Actor last night.
Almost a certainty that he would win, Leonardo DiCaprio took to the stage and graciously thanked his fellow nominees, director Allejandro G. Innaritu and his co-star Tom Hardy before he finished his speech with an impassioned plea for environmentalism. DiCaprio has long been an activist for environmental issues, narrating and producing 2007's The 11th Hour.
For his role in The Revenant, DiCaprio spent several months in the wilderness of Alaska and reportedly slept inside the innards of a dead horse to fully understand the physical torment his character went through and underwent extraordinary lengths for the role.
Needless to say, he deserved it. Here's his acceptance speech.
