Based on a book by Jeff Vandermeer, Annihilation tells the story of four professional women who enter a place called Area X that’s filled with weird creatures and vegetation.
Portman plays a scientist named Lena tasked with exploring the strange goings-on.
Director Alex Garland says that Portman's character “finds a very strange, dream-like, surrealist landscape, and goes deeper and deeper into that world, and also into that mindset.”
Annihilation also stars Oscar Isaak, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tuva Novotny, Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson. Watch the trailer here:
