With the passing of Gene Wilder this week, it's only natural that more and more stories and interviews from the comedy legend are starting to resurface.
One such interview with Robert Osbourne comes from 2013 and is considered to be the last major sit down interview that the star provided.
He covered a variety of topics during the 30 minute interview but one of the more notable moments was when he was asked about remakes of classic movies and in particular, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“I think it’s an insult,” Wilder went on to say. “Johnny Depp, I think, is a good actor, but I don’t care for that director. He’s a talented man, but I don’t care for him doing stuff like he did.”
A pretty damning verdict on Burton. It's fair to say he wouldn't be alone in that opinion either. Burton made a name for himself with original and visually creative work so it is disappointing for some to see him spend so much time with big budget remakes of classic movies.
The whole chat is well worth your time and gives a greater insight into why Wilder became more and more selective about his projects in the latter stages of his career.
