Between now and the end of September, we're going to be seeing a lot more promotion for Oscar contenders.
We've already seen the hugely tense Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio and Domhnall Gleeson, the slick Trumbo with Bryan Cranston and now we've got Carol with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
Directed by Todd Haynes, who directed the acclaimed TV miniseries Mildred Pierce and the Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, Carol tells the story of a wealthy, married woman who embarks on a relationship with a young woman in 1950's America. It was written by Patricia Highsmith, who adopted a nome de plume because of the homosexual nature of the story and the controversy the story courted.
It's been ripe for an adaptation for quite some time now and with Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara and the visual styling of it all, we can expect to score big with the Academy in the New Year. Carol lands in Irish cinemas on November 27th.
Take a look.
