Aside from his cartoon villainy appearances in the likes of Machete Kills and Expendables 3, it's been nearly four years since we've seen Mel Gibson in a role of substance. His latest thriller, Blood Father is about to change all that.
If Gibson's recent form both on and off screen has cooled your enthusiasm for this then it's worth noting that it's Jean-Francois Richet is the man calling the shots behind the camera. Richet made both parts of the brilliant Mesrine. The script is based on a book by Peter Craig, author of The Town who's adaptation was co-written by Straight Outta Compton's Andrea Berloff. That's a lot of behind the scenes talent right there.
As you can make out from the trailer, Blood Father sees Gibson's down-at-heel tattoo artist John Link throwing his parole into jeopardy when he gets into a spat with some drug dealers who've taken issue with his estranged daughter. William H. Macy, Elisabeth Röhm, Thomas Mann, Erin Moriarty, Diego Luna and Michael Parks co-star.
